What the SBTET PIN actually means
SBTET issues a PIN to every diploma student. It is not a password and it does not open a private account: it identifies your scheme, college, branch and roll number so that the portal can locate the correct attendance record. Most PINs follow the pattern DDCCC-BBB-RRR. The hyphens are separators, not part of the value, and the portal normally accepts the PIN with or without them.
-
DD
Scheme
Two digits for the scheme or admission batch, such as 24 or 26.
-
CCC
College
Three digits assigned to your polytechnic, for example 601.
-
BBB
Branch
Two or three letters for your branch, such as CS, ME, EEE or ECE.
-
RRR
Roll
Three digits for your roll number within the branch, for example 001.
Read as a whole, 24601-CS-001 means scheme 24, college 601, branch CS and roll 001. Your own PIN may use different values, and a college code is not the same as the college's name or its examination-centre code. Because the PIN contains your roll number, treat it like your roll number: it is not a secret password, but there is no reason to post it in a public group or leave it on a shared computer.
Where to find your PIN
The most reliable source is your SBTET diploma examination hall ticket, where the PIN normally appears near your name and roll number. If you do not have the hall ticket, your college examination section or department office can confirm the PIN from its records. Previous hall tickets or examination correspondence may also show it.
Copy the characters carefully. A zero and the letter O can look alike in some fonts, and branch letters must match the branch on your record. If you changed branch or college, or if you are unsure which scheme applies to you, ask the examination section rather than guessing. A PIN from a friend's college will never return your attendance.
How to check SBTET attendance step by step
The official portal is the primary source. These steps match the way the attendance report is normally reached; menu labels can change between portal updates.
- Open the SBTET Telangana portal. Use a current browser on your phone or computer and go to sbtet.telangana.gov.in. A desktop browser can make long reports easier to read, but the report also works on a phone.
- Find the attendance report. Look under the examination or student-services links for the attendance report page. If the portal has moved the link, your college may publish a direct link on its own site.
- Enter your PIN. Type the PIN in capital letters, for example
24601-CS-001. You can usually type it without hyphens. Check the college code and branch letters before submitting. - Submit the form once. Wait for the page to load. Repeated refreshing while the portal is working can slow the request and may return an error page.
- Read the summary and month rows. Check classes held, classes present, classes absent and the overall percentage. Month rows show how recent attendance is changing. If the report shows your semester, scheme and branch, confirm that they match your current record.
- Note the date and follow up on gaps. The report is a snapshot, not a live register. If a month, laboratory session or subject is missing, note the date and ask your college examination section to check the source attendance.
How attendance percentage is calculated
The basic formula is classes attended divided by classes conducted, multiplied by 100. If you attended 38 of 50 classes, your percentage is 38 ÷ 50 × 100 = 76%. The same arithmetic applies when the portal reports a month: attend 18 of 20 classes and the month shows 90%.
Percentages can move faster than students expect. At 38 of 50, one more absence takes you to 37 of 51, which is 72.5% — below 75%. That is why a small buffer matters near the end of a semester. The portal may round a percentage to one decimal place, so use the present and total numbers when you need to be exact.
Monthly figures reset with each month, while the overall figure is cumulative for the period the report covers. Laboratories, drawing sessions and tutorials may be counted separately from theory classes, and some colleges treat half-day or late attendance differently. The portal totals reported for your college are the figures to use; if a subject total looks wrong, ask the department how it records that session.
The 75% attendance requirement
Most polytechnics require at least 75% attendance for eligibility to appear in semester-end examinations. Confirm the exact requirement with your college, because condonation, medical leave and department-level rules can differ, and a college may impose a higher internal requirement.
Treat 75% as a floor, not a target. A student at exactly 75% has no room for an unplanned absence: the next class missed lowers the percentage. Keeping a margin of a few percent protects you during illness, transport disruptions or family emergencies. If you are already below the threshold, ask your college early about condonation or any remedial process; waiting until the examination form deadline leaves fewer options.
To see your own margin, use the diploma attendance calculator. It shows how many classes you can still miss at a chosen target and how many consecutive classes you would need to attend to recover.
What to do when no attendance record is found
A missing record is usually a data-matching problem rather than a lost attendance history. Check these causes in order:
- A typing mistake. Re-enter the PIN in capitals, check zero versus O, and confirm the branch letters and college code.
- Attendance not uploaded yet. At the start of a semester, or after a college submits a correction, the portal may not show the latest month.
- A scheme or branch mismatch. Transfers and readmissions can leave you attached to an older scheme or branch code.
- A temporary portal fault. Try again later on a different network before concluding that the record is absent.
NoteShuttle does not maintain its own attendance register. When the checker says no records were found, the official portal answered without a record for that PIN. The next step is your college examination section, which can see the source register and request a correction. Take your hall ticket and a screenshot of the portal response with the date visible.
Privacy when you check attendance online
NoteShuttle is an independent student project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to SBTET Telangana. The free checker sends your PIN to our server only so that the server can request the report from the official SBTET portal and return it to your browser.
If you leave Remember on this device ticked, the PIN and the returned report are stored in your browser's local storage so that returning visits can show your attendance quickly. You can remove them at any time with the Clear saved PIN action on the checker, or by clearing site data in your browser. On a shared or college computer, leave the checkbox unticked.
For aggregate analytics, our server keeps a salted, one-way hash of the PIN together with derived college code, branch code, scheme, semester and basic result metadata. These analytics records do not contain the raw PIN, your name or your roll number, and the aggregate figures are visible only to administrators. You can read the details in our privacy policy. If you want notes, results and campus chat alongside attendance, read about the NoteShuttle Android app.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I find my SBTET PIN?
Your PIN is printed on your SBTET diploma examination hall ticket. Your college examination section or department office can also confirm it if the hall ticket is not available.
Is the SBTET PIN the same as my roll number?
The PIN contains your roll number, but it also includes your scheme, college code and branch code. Use the full PIN, not only the last three digits, when you check attendance.
Can I check SBTET attendance without a PIN?
The official attendance report needs a PIN. You can estimate a percentage with the free diploma attendance calculator, but only the portal report comes from your college's records.
What attendance percentage do I need in a polytechnic?
Most polytechnics require 75% attendance to be eligible for semester-end examinations. Confirm the exact requirement, condonation rules and any medical-leave provisions with your own college.
Why does the SBTET portal show no attendance record for my PIN?
Common reasons are a typing mistake, attendance not yet uploaded by the college, a scheme or branch mismatch after a transfer, or a temporary portal problem. Check the PIN again and contact your college examination section with your hall ticket.
Ready to see your own numbers?
Check your live attendance from the official portal, then use the calculator to plan how many classes you can afford to miss.
